The maximum award for travel grants this year is $1,000. The grants are competitive; not all faculty applying for a grant receive one, and not all accepted proposals are funded at the amount requested.
Accordingly, the quality of the proposal will be an important factor in the awarding of the faculty grants. Grants may be awarded for the following areas involving travel:
- a professional or academic conference (strong preference is given for invited participation in the conference, symposium, or other event)
- research or teaching development, or both
- conferences relating to pedagogy
Preference is given to projects with specific outcomes (e.g., projects involving a specific show, course, or publication).
Grants are prospective; funding will be awarded quarterly for future activities. Preference may be given to travel in the three months following each deadline -- that is, in the current grant cycle. (Retroactive grants will not be awarded.)
The Faculty Grant Form (listed under Applications) should be submitted by the corresponding deadline to Reuben Kuszel, assistant to the Provost, in the Academic Affairs Office on the Oakland campus. Receipts must be turned in 14 days after completion of travel for reimbursement. The Academic Cabinet will review the proposals and award the grants.

Selection Criteria
-
You must be a current CCA faculty member at the time of application deadline with an expectation of continued teaching at the college.
-
Unranked faculty are eligible to apply for the grant after completion of one semester's teaching at the college. All faculty are encouraged to apply; preference will be given to ranked and adjunct faculty.
-
Previous history of grant support, service to the college, and timing (e.g., the opportunity in terms of applicant’s career track) may be considered by the selection committee.
Applications
The Faculty Travel Grant form must be completed and returned to Reuben Kusze at rkuszel@cca.edu by the above-stated deadlines. In addition to the completed form please include documentation of invitation to participate in the conference, symposium, or other event if possible. This may be a copy of the program, or a letter of acceptance or invitation from the organizers of the event.
Additional Requirements
Grantees must submit a brief summary of the project and original receipts (not copies) of expenses for reimbursement by the corresponding deadline. In some cases, we would appreciate the faculty member’s willingness to share experiences with members of the college by invitation of the committee.
Applicants are reminded to review the CCA Academic Policy regarding absences from teaching, and are advised to make appropriate arrangements should the travel result in absence from class.
Note: Grants are awarded only for reimbursable expenses for the specific proposal requested; if the proposed activity changes after receiving the award, the faculty member must resubmit the proposal to the committee.
If you have any questions regarding the faculty travel grants and the proposal process, please contact Reuben Kuszel, assistant to the Provost.
