Hiring Unranked Faculty

The hiring of unranked faculty is conducted primarily by the program chair, in consultation with the program faculty, and with the approval of the administration. Eligibility to work in the United States must be verified before any offers of employment are made.

Once a candidate has been offered a position by the chair, the appropriate paperwork (see Forms below) must be completed, signed, and submitted to the director by the deadlines indicated in the Schedule Building Timeline:

  • A current résumé or CV which specifically includes venues and dates for education, degrees, teaching and professional activity
  • A New Hire Faculty form, completed by the candidate and reviewed by the hiring chair. Pay close attention to immigration requirements.
  • An Unranked Faculty Status Recommendation completed and signed by the program chair and signed and approved by the director and the provost

When all paperwork has been submitted to the director and approved by the provost, the course assignment(s) for the new hire must be submitted to the registrar for inclusion in the class schedule.

Once the published deadlines in the Schedule Building Timeline have been met, all required paperwork has been submitted and the new hire has been entered into the course schedule, a faculty contract will be issued in accordance with the contracting schedule determined by the Academic Affairs Office. All accompanying forms to the faculty contract must be completed and returned in order to complete the hiring process and initiate payroll procedures.

Dependant on the new faculty person's immigration status, a Foreign National Tax Determination may also need to be submitted.

It is necessary to complete a New Course Proposal for new required courses and new categories of courses. The completed form must be submitted by program chairs to directors in conjunction with updated course schedules. Be sure to indicate prerequisites and course levels. It is not necessary to submit this form for new descriptions or revisions to courses within existing categories.

Description changes to existing courses may be emailed to the appropriate director.
