Official CCA press releases are available online in the Press Resources section and are often distributed to various media outlets.

About CCA's Press Releases

The Communications Office issues approximately 30 to 40 official press releases throughout the academic year. Press releases are public announcements that are written in traditional news story format for the purpose of providing the media with newsworthy information about CCA.

Because journalists are continuously inundated with press releases, the Communications Office issues official CCA press releases only for news and events that might generate substantive media coverage for the college.

If you have an event or announcement that you think might warrant a press release, it is best to let us know prior to each semester. We will also consider your news for a CCA web feature or for a story in the college's biannual magazine, Glance.

Note: The media generally requires a lead time of four to six weeks for newspapers and local news; two to four months for magazines.

Please allow three additional weeks to create and distribute the press release.

Unofficial Press Releases

There are times when students or faculty may wish to inform the media of events connected with their respective programs. This is permissible, and also encouraged, as self-promotion is an important part of the learning process for creative artists.

However, only the Communications office can issue press releases and other written materials to the media that represent the college (i.e., "from California College of the Arts").

Correspondence with the media on behalf of a specific program (e.g., PLAySPACE gallery, Eleven Eleven) must properly reflect this relationship.

For example:

Correct: PlaySpace Gallery presents "An Exhibition" or PLAySPACE graduate gallery at California College of the Arts presents "An Exhibition."

Incorrect: California College of the Arts presents "An Exhibition" in the PLAySPACE gallery.
