About the SF Studios General Shop Orientation
All students who wish to use the shops on the San Francisco campus are required to attend a one-time general shop orientation. This orientation is separate from any Oakland Studios orientation. It typically lasts one and a half hours and covers basic shop safety practices as well as general shop policies.
A multiple-choice test is issued during the orientation. Students must answer correctly 100 percent of the questions in order to earn a shop sticker that allows access to the shops for the duration of a student's enrollment at the college.
Specific Orientations
Various shop resources (laser cutters, bridgeport milling machine, kick press, etc.) require additional orientations specific to their use before they can be accessed. These orientations are commonly listed on the appropriate studio calendar and are often scheduled upon request.
Orientation Schedules
Schedules for the general shop orientation are posted on campus at the beginning of each semester, as well as on the SF Shops Orientation Schedule. As every effort is made to accommodate varied schedules, requests for additional orientations are discouraged. However, instructors who have more than five students who are unable to attend a scheduled orientation may request a special orientation for their class.
San Francisco Studios
CCA’s San Francisco studios are a collection of shared resources that support all SF-based departments. Access is available to all current students and faculty upon attending the individual facility's policy and safety orientations.
