Accolades for Writing Student Adam Nemett and Alumna Kate Colby

Two students of the MFA Program in Writing—Adam Nemett, who just finished his first year, and alumna Kate Colby (2003)—have received prestigious recognition by the literary community.

Adam Nemett's short story "Last Man" was recently published in an anthology alongside literary works by canonical and contemporary masters. The Apocalypse Reader (Thundermouth Press, 2007), edited by Justin Taylor, features 28 speculations on the end of the world, including short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Neil Gaiman, Ursula K. Le Guin, H. P. Lovecraft, Rick Moody, Joyce Carol Oates, Edgar Allan Poe, and H. G. Wells.

Kate Colby's book of poems Fruitlands (Litmus Press, 2006) won the Norma Farber First Book Award. The poetry collection was Colby's MFA thesis project. The Norma Farber First Book Award is given each year by the Poetry Society of America for a first book of original poetry written by an American, and published in either cloth or paperback in a standard edition. The award was established by the family and friends of the poet and children's book author Norma Farber.
