How does a fashion designer build a collection with personal style and prophetic vision? This studio offers a two-part exploration of this question. Half of the course is dedicated to drawing from the model, with emphasis on the proportion and structure of the human form and qualities of expression and stylization. The other half is devoted to researching, developing, and presenting color illustrations of student designs. The class also studies examples of international designer collections, visits local designers and retailers, and explores the history of costume and illustration. For their final projects, students manipulate muslin on a dress form, exploring sculptural concerns. Knowledge of sewing is not required.
Fashion Design is an all-day studio.
