Photography: Color

This studio is an introduction to the materials and techniques of printing color photographs, taking advantage of CCA's well-equipped lab and 42-inch-wide, dry-to-dry RA4 color processor. Each of the college's 12 darkrooms has a professional color-head enlarger. Students shoot and print color negatives, gaining an understanding of the color temperature of light and how to refine exposures and rate the exposure index of films. Through discussions, slide lectures, and field trips, the class examines how historical and contemporary photographers have used color to express ideas and concepts. Each student develops a series of personal images in color. Participants must bring a 35-millimeter camera and a black-and-white negative to the first class.

Applicants for this course must have previously completed the CCA Pre-College Photography: Black & White studio or at least one equivalent semester course of black-and-white photography.

Photography: Color is an all-day studio.
