Refunds

To obtain a refund of tuition, a student must officially withdraw from the course by written notice to the Office of Special Programs. Failure to attend class and/or notification of the instructor alone do not constitute official withdrawal.

  • Withdraw in person at CCA's Office of Special Programs. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Mail official notice of withdrawal to Office of Special Programs, California College of the Arts, 5212 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94618
  • Fax official notice of withdrawal to Office of Special Programs, 510.594.3771. Students who fax their official notice must call the Office of Special Programs at 510.594.3710 to confirm.

Refunds are prorated as follows and are calculated from the day the written notice is received (in person or by postmark). Please allow four weeks for the processing of refunds.

  • Courses meeting for 1–2 sessions:
    • 100% refund if received four business days before the first class.
  • Courses meeting for 3–6 sessions:
    • 100% refund if received 4 business days before the first class.
    • 70% refund if received one business day before the second class.
  • Courses meeting for 7 or more sessions:
    • 100% refund if received four business days before the first class.
    • 85% refund if received one business day before the second class.
    • 70% refund if received one business day before the third class.

If a student drops a course requiring a lab fee, the fee is not refundable as of four business days before the first class. If a student drops a course requiring a materials fee, the fee is nonrefundable after the course has begun.

Refunds for Canceled Courses

The college reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course or to change instructors. Courses may be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not met. Early registration greatly helps decrease course cancellations. Typically, decisions regarding course cancellations occur three to four days prior to the course start date, as determined by the Dean of Special Programs. If you are registered for a course that is canceled, you will be notified by phone or mail. You will have the option to transfer into another course or receive a full refund of tuition and all applicable fees, including the registration fee.
