CERAM100 Intro Ceramics: Innovation

Playing with Fire: Innovation and Experimentation in Clay An introductory hand building course focusing on studio practice. This course places ceramics within the larger art context, encouraging innovation and experimentation. Students will develop a range of sculptural skills through the use of slab, coil, and simple armatures. The course includes glazing applications as well as a broad examination of ceramic surface treatments. Students will be encouraged to develop their own visual language and to work self sufficiently in preparation for upper level work in clay. Slide talks and visual assignments will provide context for historical and contemporary ceramic approaches.
