COURSE DESCRIPTION

DIVSM300 Identity Construction

In this course we will investigate different views on what constitutes identity. How identity is constructed in relation to the human body, geographical location (a sense of place), the concept of community within diverse cultural contexts and memory (a sense of time). We will approach our subject from different viewpoints such as the visual arts - with an emphasis on photography - anthropology and folklore, science and philosophical based inquiries.
