COURSE DESCRIPTION

INDUS200 Industrial Design 1

The first in a series of conceptually-based design studios, ID1 introduces students to the object and its role in our everyday experience. Through lecture and projects, students explore the history and range of object types as well as the relationship between function, behavior, and form. Students are introduced to the idea of process as one of the first principles of learning how to understand the development of ideas and forms. They are introduced to ecological thinking, as a way to learn appropriate methods of manufacturing objects, and to rhetoric as applied to design. Team-based research is introduced and applied as a way of working that will continue into the professional world.
