COURSE DESCRIPTION

COMAR404 DS: Athena Project: "M"

The Athena Project provides an opportunity for CCA students to mentor middle-school-aged youth in an after school program on the CCA campus. CCA students will work with youth on a community-based art project. Each small group of students will have freedom to choose the medium of its projects, which may involve elements of storytelling, sculpture, painting, photography, and video. The course will provide a grounding in the principles and practice of mentorship, with ample time for reflection and discussion. It will also give students an intimate experience of the fields of education, youth development, and community-based art. This course can also count towards the Diversity Studies Studio requirement.
