Students learn the basics of digital video practices and techniques using Apple's Final Cut Pro. Students are introduced to cinematic language and technique. Participants learn video capturing, logging, editing, using transitions, compositing, creating special effects and titles, rendering, mixing audio, and mastering to tape. Although a focus is given to digital video, analog-digital conversion and web streaming formats are also covered. With a desktop computer, a digital video camera, and an understanding of digital video editing skills, participants leave with the essential tools to work as a freelance video producer or video artist.

A hands-on studio that exposes students to digital video/filmmaking, website design, and a multitude of other practices embedded to conditions of time and space. Students receive an introduction to digital technologies, interactive and collaborative methodologies, and critical study of media culture that engages a broad interdisciplinary skill set toward the potential of new technologies in art making and design. By comparing and contrasting mass culture and normative models to edgy experimental formats, students gauge their relationship to time, community, and artistic practices.
Students must have a Macintosh laptop or a firewire hard drive.
