Introduction to Screen Printing

OAK 807
Instructor: K. A. Sheehan
Mon., Wed., Thurs., 1–6 p.m., May 29–July 9
18 sessions. $1,700 pass/fail* (3 credits); $180 lab fee payable at registration. Prerequisite: at least one previous drawing class

Screen printing is the most versatile of all print media, with the ability to print on many different substrates. This intensive investigation into a stencil process of printing is geared toward the creation of original prints in multiple colors in small editions, as well as the unique piece. Students demonstrate and explore the various methods used to create film positives—hand drawn, cut masking film, or with digital output. Particular emphasis is given to matching the process to the students' interests and fields of study. Planned visits include Thomas Wojak's editioning studio in Vallejo and the Legion of Honor's print collection in San Francisco.

Lab fee covers a screen, squeegee, and inks.

* This course also can be taken for a letter grade: $3,660.
