Sydney Cohen
Sydney Cohen is a painter whose work has been exhibited regionally in a number of Bay Area galleries, as well as in Chicago. Her work is about phenomenology, virtual worlds, and the interactions of the senses and consciousness.
Her project Elevations looked to ukiyo-e prints for places where exterior and interior spaces become indecipherable. Another project, Floods and Flurries, imagines moments when nature breaks into interior architecture as a metaphor for the way life sometimes enters our consciousness against our will.
She has curated several shows, including Dinosaurs: 17 Bay Area and New York Artists Go Back to the Future co-curated with James Pitt at the Los Medanos Community College Art Gallery in Pittsburg, California.
Sydney is the recipient of the Iowa Arts Fellowship.
