FASHN316 Fashion Design 4: Conceptual In Conceptual Design for Fashion we will regard the body as our arena for the communication of ideas. A series of projects will serve as triggers encouraging the discovery of individual interests, subject matter and expression. This course will pull from the work of past and contemporary designers in several fields, including those that blur the distinctions between clothes, jewelry, craft, product design, fashion, art and architecture. Considering the role of garments when they are both on and off the human body, we will explore the ways in which garments are influenced by context and their capacity to create it. Research and production of 3D projects will occur largely outside of class using any source, material and technique that serves to convey and reference a personal statement. This course encourages breaking the rules of traditional garment making. It is a critique based class that considers each student a professional artist and designer and requires writing and presentation of that standard. |
