perforated aluminum, monofilament, motor and fan
(4' x 10' x 6')
This kinetic artwork was assembled and installed as a prototype for a much larger version that will be created for The Exploratorium's new building, opening in 2013. This piece is suspended over the entrance to an exhibition focused on life forms, primarily plankton, which are abundant in the San Francisco Bay. A mechanism pulses the framework from which all the “waves” hang, causing them to move in patters that mimic ocean waves as seen from below the surface of the water. The final work will be 6 times the size of this prototype.
