The eco-home design “Low Rider” is a case study house of passive ecological design in Greensburg Kansas.
The dwelling uses a minimum amount of energy while providing comfortable living conditions. The double enclosure produces an “in between climate zone” with an adjustable skin to compensate for the climate changes over the course of a year in Kansas.
The modular plan layout is designed for flexible use and reuse. The repetitive design saves time and cost during construction.
The modules of the modular plan and all green features are thought of as additive or subtractive alternates during the bidding process.
Every room in the house has a connection to the outside. Similar to the traditional porch design the dwelling gains additional shaded room with a view to the outside and constant air movement.
The design includes provisions to protect the building in case of a tornado. The building is submerged 4’ into the ground.
An abundant amount of day light is provided through the adjustable exterior skin.
