Donald Fortescue

Australian born and trained, Donald has exhibited internationally, received many grants and awards, taught at several design and art schools, maintained a commercial furniture studio in Australia for 10 years, and worked with leading furniture makers and craftspeople in Australia, the UK, Japan, and the United States.

He migrated to the United States in January 1997. In November 2001, he had a solo exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as one of three inaugural winners of the SFMOMA's Experimental Design Award.

He has exhibited regularly at John Elder Gallery in New York and at SOFA in Chicago. His last solo exhibition was at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in 2004–5.

His work is in the permanent collections of SFMOMA, the New York Museum of Art and Design, the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
