Joseph Lease's critically acclaimed books of poetry include Broken World (Coffee House Press, 2007) and Human Rights (Zoland Books, 1998). His poem "'Broken World' (For James Assatly)" was selected for The Best American Poetry 2002 (Scribner, 2002).
Joseph's poems have been featured on National Public Radio and published in Agni 56 (its 30th-anniversary poetry anthology) as well as in Bay Poetics, Boston Review, Chain, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Fence, Five Fingers Review, Grand Street, Harvard Review, New American Writing, Paris Review, Talisman, Virginia Quarterly Review, Volt, Xantippe, and elsewhere. His essays on poetics have appeared in African American Review 26 and Poetry Flash.
Thomas Fink's book A Different Sense of Power (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2001) includes an extensive analysis of Joseph's poetry.
