Doug Akagi began his career at the renowned Nippon Design Center in Tokyo, Japan, where Tanaka Ikko and Tadanori Yokoo were among his cohorts. He is now a coprincipal of Alterpop, a small design atelier in the Potrero Hill district of San Francisco.
Doug's work has been published domestically and internationally in numerous periodicals and books on design, including the Graphis Annuals Posters and Design series, Communications Arts Annual, Print Regional Annual, I.D. Annual, Novum and the annuals of the New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Western Art Directors Clubs.
Doug's work was recently included in a touring national poster exhibition entitled, The Graphic Imperative, which opened in Philadelphia and then traveled to the AIGA Design Center in New York City, and on to St. Louis, Missouri, Boca Raton, Florida, and next will be on exhibit in Boone, North Carolina. Doug began teaching design at CCA in 1984.
