Lee Friedman

Lee Friedman began his career as a photographer in Paris and New York where he paid his proverbial dues by assisting Mario Testino, Sante D'Orazio, Bert Stern, Shelia Metzner, David Seidner, culminated by a two-year stint with Steven Meisel.

Subsequently, having shot still-life and fashion work for clients such as Vogue, Esquire, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, W, Bergdorf Goodman, MTV, The New York Times Magazine, and countless others, Lee finally escaped Manhattan after many years to regain his sanity and pursue an MFA in scenic Providence, Rhode Island.

Continuing on a whirlwind path of radical change, he eventually landed in San Francisco and founded Lee Friedman Studio which has focused on the design of books and publications, identity systems, and print collateral. Among his clients: the University of California Press, O'Reilly Media, Restoration Hardware, Thomson Learning, and Stanford University Press.

Additionally, Lee has been creative director at Gastronomica, Dwell, and Everywhere magazines. His work has been honored by the AIGA, the Society of Publication Designers, Graphis, and Communication Arts.

Lee has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, the San Francisco Art Institute, the State University of New York at New Paltz, and has been an adjunct professor at CCA since 2001, as well as having served as a program advisor and design faculty representative for the Admissions Office.

He holds a BFA in photography from Pratt Institute, and an MFA in graphic design from RISD.
