Peter Edward Scherrer

BFA Painting/Drawing, 2005

Peter Scherrer cites his Painting/Drawing courses, copious studio time, and established CCA community (he continues to exhibit with CCA colleagues) as key ingredients that shaped his artistic practice – one that allowed him to work as a studio artist once out of college.

He is currently making paintings in oil and gouache and working with woodblock prints. (His current body of work reflects life in the Pacific Northwest.)

His work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Vancouver, and the Bay Area.

The artist values his solitary studio practice and often relies on the techniques explored at CCA to push forward his work.

Peter Scherrer is currently represented by SEASON gallery in Seattle.

Denise Silver

BFA Painting/Drawing 2011

Denise Elizabeth Silver is a performance artist whose notable solo performances include CCA's 2010 Graduate Thesis Exhibition in San Francisco and another at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2011.

She collaborated with other students on the Paulina Olowska: Sesum fo L'lab event -- CCA's fall Capp Street Project artist in residence.

Silver travels to densely polluted urban environments to push 60-pound blocks of ice through the streets while dressed in a homemade polar bear suit to draw attention to the tension between urban life and the natural world. Watch video »

She has staged multiple guerilla performances locally at the Piedmont Cemetery, CCA Senior Show, Richmond Docks, Performa 11, and New York's New Museum; and internationally at the Bamboo Forest, Kyoto; and Shabuya Crossing, Tokyo.

She credits Painting-Drawing chair Kim Anno for providing support and inspiration, describing her as "an extraordinary artist and a gifted teacher."

David Isaac Muller

BFA Painting/Drawing 2004

David Muller is a fine artist and restaurateur who credits CCA with broadening his perspective of how to approach art as a lifestyle, rather than merely as a career or project.

With his wife, Lana Porcello, also a visual artist, they cofounded Carville Annex, an artist studio and project space in San Francisco's Sunset District. The annex offers a lecture series Sarah Fontaine and Graduate Design alumna Alexis Petty facilitate.

They also established Outerlands, a successful restaurant on the same block as their artist studio, which has been reviewed in the New York Times and included in the San Francisco Chronicle's 17th annual Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants guide. (Pending features include Bon Appetit and Martha Stewart Living.)
