PNTDR-112

This class is the sequel to Drawing 1 in Core. It focuses on all the issues of drawing: line, space, composition, value, light and shadow, and the ability to draw what is seen with accuracy. The class will have an emphasis on life drawing and is a requirement for majors in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking.

The anatomy of the head, neck, leg, foot and full figure are studied. Anatomy texts describing the skeletal and muscular systems form the bridge to understanding the surface structure of the body. The course consists of part life drawing, part drawing of the skeleton, and part academic study of the musculoskeletal system. Study (including diagramming and labeling) using books and the internet helps to relate the morphology of the figure to its underlying systems. Proportion guides are given for the head and the full figure. Expected outcomes are that students will be able to identify anatomical landmarks, and will be able to construct figures from memory.
