Drawing is the most direct, basic means of artistic expression. In this studio students learn many new concepts and drawing techniques and are challenged to look, see, and respond to stimuli in new ways.
Students work on gesture, accuracy in proportion, perspective, contour, and position in space as they draw from the figure and natural and human-made objects. The emphasis is on developing hand-eye coordination. This course explores issues of line, shape, texture/pattern, composition, value, realism, abstraction, content, context, point of view, and the frame.
Media used include charcoal, pencil/graphite, conte crayon, sumi brush, ink washes, and oil sticks. Five class sessions are devoted to working from a nude model.
Two Drawing studios are offered. Drawing is paired with Painting and Printmaking.
