Industrial Design

Who designs the everyday items in our lives: iPods, athletic shoes, teakettles, chairs, computers, and cars? Industrial designers are responsible for the concepts and designs of the most exciting products in the world today—products that transcend the mundane nature of their use. Students learn the fundamentals of the industrial design process and how to conceptualize and design products. They learn how to sketch their ideas and create working prototypes that communicate with power, grace, and confidence. Guest designers from around the San Francisco Bay Area offer feedback on student work. The course includes a field trip to at least one cutting-edge local design firm (last year's class visited fuseproject, the studio of Yves Béhar, chair of CCA's Industrial Design Program).

Industrial Design is an all-day studio.
