Emerging Artist Residency at Kala Awardee
Congratulations to CCA's Hamaguchi Emerging Artist Residency at Kala award recipients Chelsea Ryoko Wong (BFA 2010 Printmaking) and Cianna Valley (BFA 2011 Printmaking).
Cianna Valley (2011 Awardee)
After graduating, Cianna Valley remained in Oakland to take advantantage of the many artistic opportunities the Bay Area has to offer. She has found work painting signs, dressing the set of a film and most recently assisting with the printing and binding of fellow CCA alum Casey Gardner's latest artist book.
She has also kept busy with work of her own; as the recipient of the 2nd Annual Hamaguchi Emerging Artist in Residence Award at the KALA Insitute she was granted four months of studio access and used the facilities to create large-scale print based sculptures and to formally edition her etchings. Though her focus is tradtional printmaking, she is always trying to find new applications for the craft.
She recently founded Placeless Press, a small print studio dedicated to the editioning of books, zines and other paper goods with a focus on creating connections with international printmakers through collaborative projects. Her work has been included in shows throughout the Bay Area, Los Angeles and Japan.
Chelsea Ryoko Wong (2010 Awardee)
Chelsea Ryoko Wong graduated from California College of the Arts with a BFA in Printmaking in 2010. Previous to CCA she studied communication design and illustration at Parsons School of Design in Manhattan.
Wong has shown in galleries in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Japan, and England. Her current focus is printmaking and mixed media.
