Young Artist Studio Program

CCA's Young Artist Studio Program (YASP) is an exciting, two-week-long, intensive studio experience for students who want to explore the visual arts in a professional art-school setting. Eligible students have just completed the sixth, seventh, or eighth grade.

The program is offered at each CCA campus (Oakland and San Francisco). Enrollment is limited to 16 students per class section.

2009 YASP dates

• June 15–26 (Oakland)
• Half-day program, June 15–26 (Oakland)
• August 3–14 (Oakland)
• August 3–14 (San Francisco)

An updated schedule of class offerings will post by March 1, 2009.

The all-day programs take place from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Morning studios are scheduled from 8:30–11:30 a.m. There is a lunch break from 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m. (students may bring lunch or purchase it from the college). Afternoon studios are scheduled from 12:15–2:15 p.m. and 2:30–4:30 p.m.

June 16–27, Oakland

Participants choose one of the following for their morning studio:

• Black-and-White Photography
• Cartoon Drawing
• Explorations in Painting
• Sculpture: Breaking the Mold

All students take Drawing from Life as an afternoon studio and choose one of the following for their other afternoon studio:

• Computers in Art
• Jewelry Design / Small-Scale Sculpture
• Mosaic Design

August 4–15, Oakland

Participants choose one of the following for their morning studio:

• Black-and-White Photography
• Cartoon Animation
• Clay Animation
• Explorations in Painting

All students take Drawing from Life as an afternoon studio and choose one of the following for their other afternoon studio:

• Computers in Art
• Printmaking Studio

August 4–15, San Francisco

Participants choose one of the following for their morning studio:

• The Art of Animation
• Explorations in Painting
• San Francisco Architecture: Imagining Home

All students take Drawing from Life as an afternoon studio and choose one of the following for their other afternoon studio:

• Making Multiples: Printmaking in Relief
• Computers in Art
• Felting in 3D

Half-Day Program

June 16–27, in Oakland

Participants take Computers in Art and Drawing from Life.

Final Exhibition

At the final exhibition, family and friends have the opportunity to see what their young artists have created during their time at YASP. Final exhibitions are scheduled by program dates below:
