Registration

How Registration Works

Summer 2008 registration begins in early March, once brochures have been mailed. Absolutely no walk-in registrations are accepted during the initial registration period; all materials must be received by standard U.S. mail.

Applications that do not include all three required items (listed below) or that are not sent via standard U.S. mail will not be processed. Because the program fills quickly, you should send in your registration as soon as possible.

Beginning Monday, April 7, walk-in registrations will be processed along with those received by mail.

Your application must include the following:

  • Completed registration form (don't forget to sign the waiver at the end)
  • Tuition, paid in full, unless you are applying for a scholarship (see the scholarship section)
  • A current photograph of the young artist applicant (the photograph is used strictly for identification purposes during the program)

Mail your application to:
California College of the Arts
Office of Special Programs
5212 Broadway
Oakland CA 94618-1426

Registration is generally on a first-come, first-served basis. Written confirmation or wait-list notification will be mailed to you within two weeks of having received your application. Students who have attended YASP before are encouraged to try new studio selections rather than repeating old ones.

Eligibility

The program is open to students who have just completed the sixth, seventh, or eighth grade.

Location

CCA's beautifully landscaped, four-acre Oakland campus is located at 5212 Broadway (at College Avenue), within walking distance of the Rockridge BART station.

CCA's San Francisco campus is located at 1111 Eighth Street (at 16th and Wisconsin) in the Potrero Hill neighborhood, next to the city's design district. It is accessible by Muni bus lines.

Final Exhibition

At the final exhibition, family and friends have the opportunity to see what their young artists have created during their time at YASP. The final exhibition for the June 16–27 programs takes place Thursday, June 26. The final exhibition for the August 4–15 programs take place Thursday, August 14.

Attendance Policy

YASP participants are expected to be present for the entire program, barring illness. This means that all-day participants must be in class from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and half-day participants must be in class from 12:15–4:30 p.m. for the full 10 days.

If another program (e.g., soccer practice) or family vacation plans (e.g., needing to pull your student out of the program two days early) will conflict with a full-time commitment to YASP, please do not register your child.

Conduct Policy

CCA is committed to offering high-quality arts programming. All YASP participants should have an interest in art. In the event that a student's behavior is deemed disruptive to other participants (by one of the instructors or by the dean of special programs), CCA reserves the right to withdraw the participant from the program. No refund will be issued.

Tuition

Tuition for the all-day program is $620. Tuition for the half-day program is $340. This price includes all supplies (with the exception of one VHS tape or blank DVD-R that students must provide if they are enrolled in an animation course). Payment is due in full with your registration materials, either by check (payable to California College of the Arts) or by MasterCard/Visa.

Scholarships

CA offers three Marcella Cleese Scholarships to YASP applicants with high financial need. Because the program fills quickly and the number of scholarships is limited, we strongly recommend that you only apply for a scholarship if your family could not otherwise afford the program. Spaces are reserved for scholarship recipients. Scholarships are for all-day participants only.

Applicants who wish to be considered for scholarships must apply by March 26. CCA will send notification letters on April 16.

If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please check the appropriate box on the registration form and include the following materials with your application:

  • A copy of your parents' or guardians' 2007 federal income tax return
  • A statement by your parent or guardian describing the family's financial need and the applicant's interest in the program
  • The name and telephone number of one of the applicant's current teachers

Returned Check Fee

If for any reason your tuition check does not clear for payment, CCA will charge a $25 penalty fee.

Withdrawal and/or refund requests must be made in writing. You may fax your request to 510.594.3771 or mail it to:
