TEXTL108 "Printing, Dyeing & Painting 1" This class introduces students to fundamental skills in the use of dyes, pigments, and paste resists to produce complex surface effects on cotton, silk, linen, and rayon. Application methods include clamp and stitch resist dyeing, batch dyeing, hand stenciling, block printing, direct painting, and an introduction to screen-printing. Students learn design strategies, laboratory procedure, and hand skills for the development of imagery, pattern, color, and layered effects, with the goal of creating unique hand-printed textiles. This course is open to students with no previous work in textiles, and is a prerequisite for intermediate/advanced textile printing courses. |
