TEXTL212 Weaving & Dyeing 2
SPRING 2011

In this class we will learn basic techniques of loom weaving and the process of dyeing yarns and experimental materials. We will use these techniques to create fabric and surfaces that explore color, pattern image, texture, and sculptural forms as they relate to both personal content and function. This is an intensive hands-on class where traditional and experimental use of materials and techniques are explored and cross-discipline work is encouraged. Spring techniques include: ikat dying, pattern weaves, new structures for textural and sculptural forms, techniques of creating pattern and image in the dyeing process instruction in dye calculations and the use of the computer for designing pattern and structures. Continuing or advanced students will focus on developing individual direction in their work through a more in-depth investigation of technique, materials and personal content. We will meet as a group for the introduction of new techniques and discussion.
