TEXTL350 CM: Fiber Sculp Mat Matter
SPRING 2011

Beginning with the making of our own pliable linear elements, we focus on constructing form using the ancient and contemporary textile processes, which employ both single and multiple elements. Structuring techniques include semi-rigid armatures and inter-lacings such as lashing, plaiting, net making, skinning surfaces, crochet and knit. Concepts of translucency, flexibility, solidity, multiples, transformation and space are explored through material experimentation, research, development of 2 and 3 D projects and collaborative installation. Students will be encouraged to pursue individual direction in projects for sculpture, body covering and functional concerns. This course is open to beginning and intermediate students in all disciplines with no previous work in fiber.
