TEXTL416 Special Projects: Weaving Students are required to conceive, develop, and bring to conclusion a single project or a series of related projects over the course of the semester. Students will design projects based on individual conceptual interests, research relevant materials and processes, submit proposals, thoughtfully consider material and presentation, and bring their projects to completion by the end of the 15-week term. With weaving as a focus, some areas of interest might include use of ""natural"" and locally sustainable materials, interaction of digital technologies with hand processes, community based projects, research into new ways of using weaving techniques from architectural scale to the intimate and personal, wearable art as well as work designed for limited production. The class will support the realization of these special projects through rigorous work-in-progress critiques, readings, and field trips. This specialized course affords students the opportunity to think broadly, follow personal lines of aesthetic inquiry, and build the technical and conceptual skills to bring those ideas to fruition. |
