In this course the class will study the major figurative painters from 1900 to the present time, from Egon Schiele to Dana Schutz. The course will examine content and meaning in painting. We will discuss emerging artists and established artists: Elizabeth Peyton, Cecily Brown, Gerhard Richter, Jennie Saville, Eric Fischl, Lucien Freud, Francis Bacon, Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Philip Guston, Lisa Yuskavage, Luc Tuymans, David Hockney, John Currin, and some of the old masters, Manet, Velazquez, Titian, El Greco and Lucas Cranach, and many others, for comparison and influences!
