This course, which follows on History of Fashion 1, will chart the evolution of 20th century styles, particularly for women, and will examine the history of designer fashion, the prevailing system in this century. The rise and fall of haute couture, the development of the American fashion industry, the establishment of designer ready to wear and the contributions of London, Milan and Japan will be covered and the work of important designers of each era highlighted. Students will be assigned independent research projects designed to deepen their knowledge of primary and secondary source material for this period.
