This course explores issues of media theory as well as artistic or institutional practice with media art. Seminal terms like "original", "authorship", "restoration", "reconstruction", "remake" will lead us through problems related to curatorial and archival institutional practice. Rare historic works of art are reviewed in light of todays shift from analog to digital. The course is at the same time an introduction into the history of media art and will include visits to the department of Media Art at SFMOMA.
