William Littmann

William Littmann is currently working on a study of Parlier, a transnational farmworker community in the Central Valley of California. He also is writing an article on the architectural history of movie theaters in San Francisco.

His dissertation, "Manufacturing Obedience: Labor Relations and the Making of the American Industrial Landscape, 1880–1930," examines how labor- management conflict was a key factor in creating the modern mass-production plant.

In addition to his classes at CCA, he also teaches courses on architectural history at the University of California, Berkeley. He also can be seen discussing the American vernacular landscape on recent episodes of the CBS television series Eye on the Bay.
