WRLIT-304

Writing is an important skill for anyone working in the fields of art, architecture, and design. This course examines common vocabulary from the three cultures and where the language overlaps and differs. Become familiar with the literature of these disciplines as you try your hand at various modes of creative and professional writing. Explore vocabulary of critique, details of description, language of symbols, and appropriate tone. Examine readings from selected books and periodicals as models for practicing traditional forms while developing your own voice, style, and stance. Writing is a crucial link between art and marketplace, making and selling, knowing and saying; from being a student to establishing a career. The course culminates with portfolio presentations where students present their artwork and speak about their aesthetic, influences, intent, skills, and goals. Texts include Design Language by Tim McCreight, Writing About Art by Sylvan Barnet, For an Architecture of Reality by Michael Benedikt.
