California College of the Arts

Work-Study

This program gives students the opportunity for part-time employment to help defray educational costs. Federal Work-Study funds are awarded on the basis of need to eligible students applying for financial aid.

An offer of work-study, either federal or institutional, is not a guarantee of employment or a cash award. A Federal Work-Study (FWS) award is a way of providing financial aid recipients priority status in securing a part-time job on campus. A student's financial aid award limits the amount that may be earned through FWS employment.

In addition, CCA has limited funding for student employment and therefore attempts to limit each student's employment allocation in order to maximize the number of students who work on campus.

Off-Campus Employment. The Center for Art and Public Life oversees a limited number of off-campus employment opportunities under the Federal Work-Study program's community service requirement.

Students who are unsuccessful in locating a position on campus or through the Center for Art and Public Life may need to find other financial resources to cover a portion of their living expenses. Those who are committed to working in order to help finance their education are encouraged to pursue off-campus, as well as on-campus, employment opportunities.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships. Teaching assistantships are available to most qualified graduate students. Assistantships are offered at $2,000 per semester and can be paid as part of FWS employment.
