Design Theory & Critical Practices

The MAAD Design Theory and Critical Practices concentration provides practicing architects and graduates of professional architectural programs an arena to engage and expand upon key concepts within contemporary architectural thought.

This program offers an immersive year of study in the theories, histories, and methodologies that constitute recent architectural discourse. Seminars expose students to contemporary debates within the field, and an independent research lab develops students’ analytical, methodological and critical writing skills.

The year culminates in the production of an architectural research project oriented toward public exhibition, publication or digital dissemination.

MAAD Design Theory and Critical Practices is an arena for potential instructors in architectural programs, future leaders of public architectural organizations, and architectural and urban writers and critics to establish their critical agenda.
