City of Walls, City of People is an exhibition of work from an international exchange between California College of Arts and the Department of Design and Visual Arts at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice.
The exhibition includes sculptures, photographs, paintings, and videos and was curated by Mariella Poli in Oakland and Lewis Baltz in Venice.
This group of emerging artists individually explored and addressed the urban experience in ways that examine personal, cultural, and social identities within their respective settings, as well as the delineation between public and private space. Each artist established physical or imaginary perimeters within the city (San Francisco, Oakland, and Venice), where they explored and developed a body of work based on their interests and experiences in that area.
