City of Walls, City of People is an international exchange between California College of Arts (CCA) and Istituto Universitario di Architettura (IUAV), Design e Arti, in Venice.
This group of young artists have explored and addressed the urban experience in ways that examine personal, cultural, and social identities within their respective settings. Each artist established physical or imaginary parameters within the city and explored and developed a body of work based on their interests and experiences in that area. Although the work is individual in concept and approach, the group has collectively presented their ideas as a visual fabric reflecting urban life.
The CCA students are Christ Aivalioti, Nicholas Basta, Ned Brauer, Sean Donnelly, Elizabeth Malaska, Geoff Melville, Michael Meyer, and Michael Sullivan.
The IUAV students are Alessandro Laita and Alberto Tadiello, Michele Lamanna, Carlo Zambon, Marco Zamarato, and Lucilla Pesce.
The exhibition was curated by Mariella Poli in Oakland and Lewis Baltz in Venice.
