The British artist Ryan Gander, whose first American solo exhibition will be presented at the Wattis Institute this fall, weaves subtle tapestries of fact and fiction. From an installation in which the audience is positioned on the wrong side of a cinema screen to a book on high-rise living installed above viewers' heads, his works are both allusive and engaging. Gander's art has been featured in exhibitions at the Tate Britain, London; Villa Arson, Nice, France; Castello di Rivoli, Turin, Italy; and White Columns, New York. He won Art Basel's Baloise Art Prize in 2005. Gander will discuss his participation in the Wattis Institute's permanent exhibition Passengers.

Cosponsored by the Wattis Institute.
