Sebastian Zeidler's area of expertise is the rich seam of writing and theory contained in the French surrealist journal Documents—particularly the writings of Carl Einstein, one of the earliest and best critics of Pablo Picasso's painting. A Getty and Mellon fellow with his PhD from Columbia University, Zeidler served as the German editor of Charles Harrison and Paul Wood's Kunsttheorie im 20. Jahrhundert (Hatje Cantz Verlag, 1998), a two-volume anthology of modern and contemporary art theory. Zeidler currently teaches in the history of art department at the University of California, Berkeley. At CCA he will present his research on Einstein, Surrealism, and Picasso.
