Lisa Cartwright's scholarship crosscuts themes of transnationalism, spectatorship, identity, psychoanalysis, media, popular culture, and new imaging technologies in science and medicine. Her books include Practices of Looking: An Introduction to Visual Culture (with Marita Sturken, Oxford University Press, 2001) and Screening the Body: Tracing Medicine's Visual Culture (University of Minnesota Press, 1995), and her new book, Moral Spectatorship, is soon to be published by Duke University Press. Cartwright is a professor in the department of communication at the University of California, San Diego.
