It is a pleasure and honor to present the Small Press Traffic Lifetime Achievement Award to Robin Blaser at this Poetry Center event. Blaser was born in Denver and grew up in Idaho, and he came to Berkeley in 1944. There he met Jack Spicer and Robert Duncan and became a key figure in the San Francisco renaissance of the 1950s and early 1960s. Blaser is the author of more than 13 books of poetry as well as numerous essays and translations. He edited The Collected Books of Jack Spicer (Sparrow, 1975), which included his essay "The Practice of Outside."
