Taraneh Hemami received her MFA from CCA in 1991 and has exhibited widely at national and international venues. Influenced by Persian art, architecture, and poetry, her artworks and installations explore the complex cultural politics of exile. Utilizing themes of displacement, preservation, and memory, she investigates the spaces between art, artifact, and architecture; two- and three-dimensional space; technology and hand crafting. She is the recipient of numerous awards from organizations that include the Creative Work Fund, the San Francisco Arts Commission, California Council for the Humanities, the San Francisco Foundation, and the James Irvine Foundation.
