When Dana Whitaker learned about the power of microfinance (small loans, safe savings, and insurance products) to alleviate poverty around the world, she decided to get involved. Coupling her intent to share this life-changing phenomenon with her love of experiencing other cultures firsthand, she set out on what became a 3-1/2 year adventure to 13 countries on five continents, photographing and interviewing some of the world's poorest individuals for her recently published book Transforming Lives $40 at a Time: Women + Microfinance: Upending the Status Quo. Learn about her travels, her travails, and the heroines she met, who through relentless hard work and microfinance are transforming the lives of their families and communities.

Copies of the book will be available for sale, and two copies will be awarded as raffle prizes.

Snacks will be provided.
