Elena Filipovic is the curator at WIELS Contemporary Art Center in Brussels, where she realized the acclaimed Felix Gonzalez-Torres retrospective Specific Objects without Specific Form earlier this year. She is also guest curator of the Satellite Program for emerging artists at the Jeu de Paume, Paris (2009–11), and was previously co-curator, with Adam Szymczyk, of the 5th Berlin Biennial, When Things Cast No Shadow (2008). In addition to championing innovative forms of exhibition making, Filipovic has written extensively about the biennial phenomenon. She coedited The Manifesta Decade: Debates on Contemporary Art Exhibitions and Biennials in Post-Wall Europe (2006) and the forthcoming Biennial Reader: Anthology on Large-Scale Perennial Exhibitions of Contemporary Art.
