Career Services and Academic Affairs enthusiastically present the 2011-12 Art and Design at Work Professional Development Series. Art and Design at Work is an information-packed series of workshops focused on presenting key tips on how to succeed in the creative industry as an artist, designer, writer, or entrepreneur.

The program "Best Practices for Freelance & Contract Work" will offer basic information on how to negotiate a freelance or other contractual agreement for your services: what should be in the deal, the deal memo and the contract before you even start. It's hard to negotiate for yourself and to protect yourself as you work.

This workshop will give you tips on how to start the relationship out right, and keep it positive and strong while protecting yourself and your work.

Michelle Katz will lead the workshop. Michelle is an attorney who represents artists, designers and others in protecting their work, licensing and selling it, and in starting businesses to license, manufacture, and distribute their products and designs. She is cofounder of a licensing and product development agency, called ideapiphany, which helps artists and designers bring their products to market.

Additional Art and Design at Work events will take place throughout the academic year, so don't miss out on these unique professional-development opportunities!
